Does the U.S. Constitution Provide For Separation of Church And State?

Yes!That concept is firmly ingrained in the First Amendment.

The first 16 words of that amendment state, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This provision creates the separation of church and state.

James Madison, the primary author of the First Amendment, said the separation of church and state is "strongly guarded" in our Constitution.

Thomas Jefferson insisted that the American people through the First Amendment have built "a wall of separation between church and state."

Short paraphrases are often used to describe constitutional principles. For example, the Constitution guarantees a "speedy" and "public" trial before an "impartial" jury. It says nothing about a "fair trial," yet this concept is widely accepted as an important legal principle and is recognized by the courts.

More to the point, the words "religious liberty" appear nowhere in our Constitution. Yet who would doubt that the principle is part of that document?

Separation of church and state is an important part of American life.

Those who attack this vital principle by saying it's not in the Constitution are primarily interested in using the power of government to force their narrow understanding of religion onto everyone else.

Men Strike Back!

What's worse than a Male Chauvinist Pig?
A woman who won't do what she is told.

-----------

Why do men die before their wives?
They want to.

-----------

Women who never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

-----------

In the beginning, God created the earth and rested.
Then God created Man and rested.
Then God created Woman.
Since then, God nor Man has rested.

Join the Army of the Lord

A friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands.

He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside.

The Pastor said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!"

My friend replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor."

Pastor questioned, How come I don't see you except at Christmas and Easter?"

He whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."

Myth: Single Payer Will Cost Me More Then I'm Paying Now For Private Insurance

Wrong.

The majority of Americans will pay about the same or less than they are paying now.

Instead of paying premiums to a private health insurance company, most of us will pay a similar or smaller amount in taxes.

So, right now, if you are payiong $8,000 in premiums for a family of four with a $4,000 deductilbe, your yearly liability is at least $12,000.

You probably pay less than that in taxes to fund a universal single payer.

There will be no deductible.

And you can go to see any doctor or check in to any hospital in the United States.

Myth: Single Payer Will Cover Less Than the Insurance I Have Now

Wrong.

For the majority of Americans, single payer will be a vast improvement.

All medically necessary care would be funded through the single payer, including doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, mental health services, nursing home care, rehab, home care, eye care, and dental care.

An enlightened single payer will also result in a sharp increase in public health funding.

No more bills. No more deductibles. No more co-pays.

Myth: Drugs Will Be More Difficult to get Under Single Payer

Wrong.

The drug industry would have you believe that there will be less research and development under a single payer system.

In fact, much medical research is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Under single payer, this would grow.

Also, drugs will be cheaper under single payer.

When all patients are under one system, the payer wields a lot of clout.

For example, the Veterans Administration gets a 40% discount on drugs because of its buying power.

This single payer buying power is the main reason why other countries' drug prices are lower than ours.

Now you know why the drug industry is so opposed to single payer.

Myth: Cost Will Skyrocket Under Single Payer

Wrong.

Single payer is the only health care reform that will save enough money to insure everyone.

By eliminating the health insurance industry, we save $400 billion a year in administrative costs and profits.

We then use that money to insure those who lack insurance and fully cover those who are under-insured.

Yes, more people will be seeking health care because they will now have insurance. But they will be taking care of medical problems early, thus preventing more costly treatment later.

Myth: Single Payer Will Lead to Rationing, Like in Canada

Wrong.

Right now in the United States, the private health insurance companies ration care.

If you don't have health insurance, you don't get health care.

That's why 120 Americans die every day from lack of health care.

There are some problems in the Canadian system, but most of what you hear about long lines is health insurance industry propaganda.

Zero people die every day in Canada due to lack of health insurance.

Myth: Single Payer is Socialized Medicine

Wrong.

That would be the Veterans Administration. Or the British health care system. Where the government pays for the doctors and hospitals.

Under single payer, you get a health care card and you can go to any doctor or hospital in the United States.

Doctors are not employees of the government. Hospitals remain in private hands.
And you get free choice of doctor and hospital.

Why do parents let their young daughters dress like that?

I know it's summer and we are all trying to stay cool. But, I have an issue like as if I don't have already. Why do these parents let their daughters dress in a way that cause middle-aged men like me to look at them? I saw a girl, with her parents and her brother (maybe her boyfriend) walk into a Mexican restaurant here in town wearing short denim jeans. She might as well be wearing denim panties, because they were so short with her legs bare all the way up to her butt. She wore this with a tank-top. This is where all of my religious training takes place in my mind and I am like a Muslim on this issue. Why can't these parents get her attention and tell her to cover up? If they don't want teenage wolves lurking around their property or have middle-aged men look at them for no reason except how she is dressed, they can do the decent thing which would be a favor to us all and get her to wear more appropriate attire if she is going to be eating out at a restaurant with her folks!
This is not about women's rights! It is about parents not taking any responsibility with their children when it comes to the clothes they choose to wear that is inappropriate. Teach your daughters to respect themselves and then they will respect you. Don't have them going around town dressed like whores! Please!!

"American Crossroads"

Founded by Karl Rove and former Republican National Committee Chairman, Ed Gillespie, this new conservative group has been established as a "shadow RNC" to solicit contributions from wealthy conservative Republicans and corporations. The organization claims to have raised $30 million and is well on its way to its $52 million goal. These resources will be used to target Democrats with a massive media campaign in the midterm elections. Given the background of this group's leadership, we can expect this organization to play fast and loose with the facts.

Committee for "Truth" in Politics

This group, which has no website and doesn't identify its staff, spent $2.3 million earlier this year on deliberately misleading ads against President Obama's proposed financial reforms, attacking it as a "$4 trillion bailout for banks." Its lawyer, James Bopp Jr., is best known for launching the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United Vs. FEC that overturned a century of precedent to allow unlimited corporate spending for or against individual candidates for election.

Monday, June 7, 2010

National Republican Trust PAC

This far right organization is best known for running a vicious ad at the end of the 2008 campaign smearing President Barack Obama through his association with the controversial Re, Jeremiah Wright. An ad it ran against Democrat Scott Murphy in last year's special election in New York had to be pulled when its claim that Murphy had created 1,000 jobs in India was proved flat-out false. Currently its website is touting "The Pelosi Index," a scale that ranges from liberty to tyranny on which congressional candidates are ranked. The site urges people to hold their legislator's "feet to the fire" in the upcoming election.

"Americans For Prosperity"

Connected to the politically conservative Koch family which owns the largest private energy company in the U.S., AFP helped launch the "tea party" movement that disrupted town hall meetings in the summer of 2009. It funded opposition to President Obama's economic stimulus legislation and is a major global warming denier. A sub-group, Patients United Now, posed as a grassroots group against health care reform. Other funders include oil giants like ExxonMobil and tobacco companies as well as right-wing foundations and individuals.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

"American Future Fund"

A Republican front group run by former GOP political operatives, many of whom worked for former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney. The group may have violated its non-profit status with a series of controversial ads in 2008 one of which praised former Sen. Norm Coleman. The group has spent $900,000 recently on anti-health reform TV and radio ads targeting 18 Democrats from Republican-leaning districts who voted for the legislation.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

"Americans for Responsible Health Care'

This group is currently running a completely deceptive attack ad targeting seven Democrats who voted for health care reform. The ad edits a statement by President Obama to make it sound like his intention was to "end health care" so the government could take over. The ads were funded solely by Parker Collier of Naples, Fla., a wealthy philanthropist and GOP donor. The group has just launched an online effort to collect 10 million signatures on a petition to repeal health care legislation. Its website does not identify staff, donors, or offer any contact information.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

The "League of American Voters"

The League of American Voters is an anti-health care reform Republican front group run by GOP operatives with a history of hateful and extreme rhetoric. The group was accused by the non-partisan League of Women Voters of intentionally using a name that sounded like their highly-respected group. While it claims to be non-partisan, the staff of LAV includes a GOP communications operative with a history of working for the health industry, a Republican operative and former candidate, a former press aide to President Ford who compared President Obama to Hitler, an extreme radical Rabbi who has said President Obama's policies pose as great a threat to Jews as Hitler did and its health-care reform ads were written by Fox News commentator, Dick Morris.

Information on "Friends of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce"

A grassroots operation modeled on the successful tactics of the Obama campaign in 2008, this group is targeting at least 40 congressional districts (a loss of 40 Democratic seats would shift the majority to the GOP) and plans to spend at least $50 million on political races, which is nearly twice as much as the Chamber spent in 2008. The Chamber spent $1 million last year to help engineer the upset victory by Republican Scott Brown in Massachusetts, which nearly doomed health care legislation. The Chamber claims 6 million members and has 6,000 affiliates. While it's not a secretive front group, the Chamber presents itself as an independent promoter of business interests, but its actions and spending line up behind Republicans at least 80% of the time. In 2009 it spent more than any other group to oppose President Obama.

This blog

From now, this blog ceases from being a political and religious blog. I am personally sick of the Tea Parties and religious differences. This will be a fun blog where I may post stuff from YouTube. Besides, I am too busy with work and with brushing up a new blog called, "Mia Pagxo de Esperanto." I don't have much to add to this blog and what I could add, my links will find them faster than I can.

A Poem by Joseph Cotter

"Brothers, come
And let us go unto our God
And when we stand before Him
I shall say -
Lord, I do not hate,
I am hated.
I scourge no one,
I am scourged.
I covet no lands,
My lands are coveted.
I mock no peoples,
My people are mocked.
And (Wall Street Hedge Fund Broker) what shall you say?"

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

It's more like Happy Resurrection Sunday! Jesus Christ arose from the dead, from the grave.

Easter comes from "Ishtar" or Ashtoreth and this was the ancient goddess of fertility.

Men and Women are Equal

I have been reading "God of the Oppressed" by James Cone. This little piece of prose is something the author heard from a preacher at an African-American church. Men and Women are equal.

"So God put Adam into a deep sleep
And took out a bone, ah hah!
And it is said that it was a rib.
Behold de rib!
A bone out of man's side.
He put de man to sleep and made wo-man,
And men and women been sleeping together ever since.
Behold de rib!
Brothers, if God
Had taken dat bone out of man's head
He would have meant for woman to rule, hah
If he had taken a bone out of his foot,
He would have meant us to dominize and rule,
He could have made her out of back-bone
And then she would have been behind us.
But, no, God Almighty, he took de bone out of his side
So dat places de woman beside us;
Hah! God knowed his own mind.
Behold de rib!"

What makes up the Levitical Priesthood of Tennessee (or any other state)

Answer: The High Priest who wears a long, black robe. He is the Judge.

He sits behind the Altar, known as a Bench. The Bench is behind the Veil to the Holy Place, known as the Bar.

To pass this Veil and approach the High Priest requires an Intercessor, known as the Lawyer. The Lawyer will help you in your prayer to the High Priest in your plea about your Sin, your crime. When you pray that you are guilty of this Sin, you become a Sinner, a criminal. The High Priest then imposes a sacrifice of one ram of the first year, which is called the Sin Offering, a Fine. He also imposes a Heave Offering of two turtle doves, the Court Costs. If you think you got shafted with a raw deal, you can go to Moses through the Aaronic Priesthood in the Holy of Holies, that when you make your Appeal to the Supreme Court.

This system is known as the Levitical Priesthood, known in modern everyday language as the Civil Service or the Judicial System.

The Policeman is the High Priest's Servant
Crime is Sin
Going to Jail is Being put in the Ward
The Courthouse is The Temple
The Courtroom is The Holy Place
The Bench is The Altar
The Bar is the Veil
The Lawyer is the Intercessor
The Plea is the Prayer
Being Guilty of the Crime is Being Guilty of Sin
A Criminal is a Sinner
The Fine is the Sin Offering
The Court Costs are The Heave Offerings
The Supreme Court is The Holy of Holies
Civil Service (Judicial System) is the Levitical Priesthood

The Truth Behind Five of the Alliance Defense Fund's Lies

Lie #1: Forcing an evangelical student group to admit non-evangelicals or gays is the same as forcing the student democratic club to admit Republicans.

The Truth: Federal law has long recognized that discrimination based on religion, like discrimination based on race, sex and national origin, falls into an entirely different category than discrimination based on other factors.

Lie #2: The ADF is working to protect against religious discrimination.

The Truth: The ADF is a Religious Right legal group founded by TV and radio preachers that seeks to tear down the church-state wall and give preferential treatment to fundamentalist Christians.

Lie #3: Public colleges and universities are hostile to religion.

The Truth: Students at public higher education institutions are free to attend religious services whenever they want. Numerous religious clubs flourish on campus, and religious freedom is secure. State colleges should not sponsor religious activity or impose worship on students, but for those students who want it, there is no shortage of religion on campus.

Lie #4: The university anti-discrimination policy at issue in Christian Legal Society v. Wu restricts evangelical students' religious freedom.

The Truth: The university anti-discrimination policy merely requires all school-recognized and funded groups to be open and accessible to all students. The Women's Law Association must admit men, the Black Law Students Association must admit white students and gay and lesbian student groups must be open to heterosexual students.

Lie #5: Public colleges across the country are seeking to punish the free association of Christian students and limit the free expression of their ideas on campus. They don't want religious groups on campus.

The Truth: Religious student groups are welcome on college campuses, but must play be the same rules as any other officially recognized student group. Religious groups should not receive special treatment to proselytize or discriminate; if they want to discriminate, then they will have to forgo official recognition and funding.

Malcolm X

From the Americana published for 1966. "Malcolm X (39), U. S. black nationalist leader: b. Omaha, Neb., May 19,1925; d. (assassinated) New York, N.Y. Feb. 21, 1965. In 1964, after several years as the most articulate spokesman for the militant Black Muslim sect, he formed his own black nationalist movement, the Organization of Afro-American Unity. A feud developed between the two groups, and at a rally of his followers, Malcolm x was assassinated. A minister's son, originally named Malcolm Little, he acquired a hatred of whites early in life as a result of childhood experiences. In his teens he went to New York and drifted into Harlem's underworld of dope peddlers, procurers, and gamblers, and before he was 21 he was arrested for burglary in Boston. In prison he learned of the Black Muslim sect, which taught the superiority of the Negro, and he accepted its militant and ascetic doctrines. At Black Muslim headquarters in Chicago, following his release, he greatly impressed the sect's leader, Elijah Muhammad, who sent him on speaking tours and placed him in charge of Mosque No. 7 in New York. A speech in which he had made light of President John F. Kennedy's assassination led to his suspension by Elijah Muhammad, and subsequently Malcolm X established his rival organization in Harlem."

He found true Islam, and went on a once-in-a-lifetime hajj to Mecca, came back to America with the solution to solving America's racial problems and that is true Islam, the answer to ending racial strife and conflict. If Americans black and white accepted the message of Islam, then there would be peace and brotherhood throughout the nation. (Emphasis: Malcolm X, the movie starring Denzel Washington)

Historical Moment: An inquiring mind - Benjamin Banneker

Benjamin Banneker had a heritage of boldness and courage. His grandmother was an English woman, Molly Walsh, who had immigrated to Maryland as an indentured servant, earned her freedom, and then started her farm. His grandfather was an African-American man, Bannaky, who had been hired by Molly to do farm work and had later been given his freedom. Over the years, Molly and Bannaky came to love each other and decided to get married. They did not let anything stand in the way of their hopes. In 1731, Benjamin was born to Mary Banneker, the daughter of Molly and Bannaky. Benjamin's grandmother taught him to read and write from the Bible. Later, he attended a local Quaker school. Benjamin clearly had a mind to learn.

When he was in his early twenties he saw a watch for the first time. The friend who owned the watch lent it to him and Benjamin proceeded to take it apart and carefully draw each piece. He then reassembled and returned the watch and set out to make his own replica. He carved each piece out of wood and then crafted his own watch so skillfully that it is reported to have run smoothly for the next forty years.

Another talent Benjamin developed was that of studying the stars, a skill passed on from his grandfather through the stories of his grandmother. In 1791, he published his first almanac. The "Benjamin Banneker Almanac" became well known throughout the northern colonies.

Banneker's achievements were recognized by many leading scientific minds, including President Thomas Jefferson who exchanged several letters with Banneker.

Through the perseverance of an inquiring mind and the heritage of his courageous grandparents, Benjamin Banneker achieved recognition as the first African-American scientist.

Radio Stations Online

Air America has bit the dust, but from the Liberaland web site and from visiting a liberal blog, there are three stations to choose from. One is Green 960, WWRL 1600, and Portland, Oregon's 620 KPOJ. These stations beats listening to my local station, KWHN 1320. It is too conservative. The Fox Affiliate in Fort Smith, KFPW, is also conservative, but they do air the Alan Colmes Show. It is the oldest station in town, and despite of the fact it airs the Fox Talk Show, they will all be pre-empted by a sporting event, such as high school football, high school basketball, OU football and basketball, etc. I am thankful for the internet. Without it, I can't find good radio anywhere. Shortwave radio is not what it used to be. More stations like that use the internet because it is far cheaper to do so. There are so many AM stations coming in at night, that sometimes I cannot find a clear signal. I remember picking up the BBC on my world band radio. It is not possible today, but they are on the internet and XM/Sirius.

I almost forgot to mention this. I have been listening to a great deal of black talk radio. This is from WAOK Atlanta. Liberal opinion is often expressed, but it is not expressed so much by its callers, and sometimes not from the talk show hosts.

Supreme Court Ruling

In a 5 to 4 decision, corporations, unions, special interest groups, and drug and health care lobbies can spend as much as they want to support and elect candidates they want to serve in public office, which will further drown out the voices of the American people. I have been trying to post Keith Olbermann's comment over this from his show posted on YouTube, but it will not post. So, I write a little something about. This is a free speech case and with this ruling, there is no restriction or cap on how much a corporation, a union, or a special interest group will spend to elect a tool to the White House, to a Governor's Mansion, or to local or county office. There is no limit an individual can spend. This may stop net neutrality once and for all. This may end up into having a corporate dictatorship under martial law. It is a ruling like Dred Scott and this may do serious damage to representative democracy.

Bruce Jenner

"Bitch, I want my ATM card!"

This is after he found out from his step-daughters that Kris, his wife, spent $4,000 on a single dress. Kris, complained that Bruce is wasting too much money on a hobby he loves: flying toy airplanes! "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" is an interesting show to watch.

The Democrats' Defeat in Massachusetts

Scott Brown, the Republican, won Ted Kennedy's old seat. All I gotta say is is that Pres. Obama and the Democrats need to get their shit together and get their heads out of their asses. They have been waffling too damn much and let the GOP run all over them!

Help the Victims of the Earthquake in Haiti

Get out your cell phone. Punch the word HAITI to 90999 and $10 will go directly to the Red Cross and you will be billed $10 on your next phone bill. Also, you can text YELE to 501501 and $5 will go directly to a charity headed by singer Wyclef Jean, who is Haitian helping his fellow Haitians and $5 will be on your phone bill.

A small earthquake, of a magnitude of 6.3, occurred in the extreme southernmost part of Argentina not far from the city of Ushuaia. So far, no reports of victims affected or structural damage and no effects in neighboring Chile. This earthquake took place somewhere between Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica. This was reported on AP and AOL Latino published an article.

Tidbits

This year is a year where I got to be so lucky. I am now serving jury duty and will have to miss work from time to time. That is all I have got to say about that.

This race thing is politics is an example of political expediency. Republicans have been saying racist and nasty things about Pres. Obama for a long time and now that you have Clinton and Reid saying things that are just as bad, Republicans cry foul and want Sen. Reid to resign. I cannot excuse what Clinton and Reid have said, but when some Republicans say stuff that is just as bad or worse, there is nobody calling for their resignations. There are commentators such as Olbermann and Maddow calling them out, but never for their resignations. The head of the RNC, Michael "You be da man" Steele is calling out for Reid's resignation. Reid's comment was stupid, but it doesn't call for his resignation, not as long as other senators and congressmen say things just as stupid if not more stupid. This is what makes this country great. We have freedom of expression and that includes the expression to say things that are stupid and ignorant. Apparently, there is a lot of ignorance going around in Washington, D.C. There must be something in the water.

National Security

I am happy to know that the underwear bomber did not succeed in blowing up that plane heading for Detroit, but why didn't the CIA listen to the father's warning that his son was going to do something that will kill innocent lives! Message to Pres. Obama, Janet Napolitano, and Brennan: We need better and more tighter national security! This is all I've got to say and now, I will watch the Alabama-Texas game!

Brit Hume to Tiger: "You Need Jesus!"

Brit Hume from Fox News send a rather evangelical message to Tiger Woods on a secular news program that Tiger should renounce Buddhism and convert to Christianity because in his view, "Christianity offers forgiveness while Buddhism doesn't." From that piece of information, I do not know what religion Tiger practices. From his wreck, his wife wanting to beat him with a golf club, from the media's revelation of his encounters with women from around the world as a married man, I imagine he doesn't follow many religious teachings of any kind. Buddhism teaches followers to stay away from illicit sexual desires and practices. To reach Nirvana, you deny and do away with material things and loose living. I wonder why he married that Swedish woman. He can't find an African-American woman to marry, especially one who is single and makes high income, living in places like Atlanta? Also, as we are observing the downfall of Tiger Woods, advertisers are dropping him like flies. Yeah right, like as if these executives of these companies live a much higher standard than Tiger Woods!
What makes Brit Hume an authority on religion, especially Buddhism? He is no more of an authority of it than Harun Yahya. He thinks that the teaching of Sidhartha Gautama tells Tiger to cheat on his wife, make all you can and not share it with anyone, live loose and fancy free, and have all the women there are? Absolutely not! How does Mr. Hume know what religion Tiger Woods follows? Maybe he is like the late Isaac Hayes and Tom Cruise of the living, who follow that joke called Scientology. If Tiger decided to become a Christian, God will forgive him, but what he did won't go away. But, the advertisers and the media who are dragging him down certainly hold lower standards than Tiger ever could. It's the same media that keeps airing Dick Cheney trashing Pres. Obama everywhere he goes and the media can't get enough of it, while we, the people, have had enough! And Brit Hume is too dry to make a personal remark similar what D. L. Hughley would say if somebody was not acting right. Mr. Hughley would just say to them: "You need Jesus!" This piece of advice is followed with laughter, appearing less judgmental. But, Brit Hume was serious, sounding like Pat Robertson!

The Start of the New Year

We are at the start of a new decade and while Pres. Obama is visiting family in Hawaii, Rush Limbaugh landed in the hospital as he visited the Aloha state. Alan Colmes did call these callers out, who told him that they wish Limbaugh would die while in the hospital. I'm glad he did, because this becomes a double-standard. It compares to a pastor praying that Pres. Obama ends up with a brain tumor and dies. I, for one, don't wish for anything bad to happen to either Rush Limbaugh or Pres. Obama. This is one of the many reasons why I listen to talk radio less than I have in the past and why I started to turn the news channels off and watch programming that is more entertaining.
What is my source for news? My local newspaper and news from the BBC on local public television. My college football team won by a field goal tonight and for now, all is right in the world.
