Surah 77: Al-Mursalat (Those Sent Forth)

Republicans are known to pick bad VP picks

The Republicans are known to pick bad VP picks and somehow, manage to win the election.
George H.W. Bush did it with Dan "you're no Jack Kennedy" Quayle, an unknown senator from Indiana. Richard Nixon did it with Spiro "Not pronounced Sprayro like that little town not far from where I live in Oklahoma" Agnew. This is a caveat for the Obama-Biden team. We known nothing about Sarah Palin except that every Republican hot shot is kissing her ass convincing us floor people working hard for less and less that she is an asset for this country. It appears that John McCain wants to continue the failed Bush legacy by putting people with little or no experience in the executive branch of government. We have witness what happened in southern Louisiana when Brown was head of FEMA. We cannot afford for something like this to happen again. Except for what Sarah Palin might have done to stop the bridge to nowhere project headed by Sen. Ted "the Internet is a series of tubes" Stevens, we don't know much about her, except she is involved in a scandal in Alaska over something that has to do with nepotism. She is not suited for the job. She can play the role as president when McCain goes overseas. She can become president if McCain dies in office. She will be that person who can make that crucial vote in the Senate to pass a bill or kill it.

The Obama-Biden team has now more experience. The experience factor has now been blow out the window by the McCain campaign. He can no longer say "Obama is not ready." I say Sarah Palin is not ready. She is governor of a big state with a very small remote population. Half of Alaska's residents live in the Anchorage area. But, she was mayor of a small town much smaller than Greenwood. McCain picks her to satisfy the religious right-wing base over nit-pick issues the GOP really doesn't care to address. Just take advantage of that base, feed them with a little bacon, and this will make them happy.

It is not worth the risk.

Many things

I think Obama's acceptance speech hit the ball out of the ball park last night. My mind was already made up on who I am supporting before this speech and after I heard it, this sealed it for me. He promises to turn things around from the path Bush/Cheney has led us and bring back what made America great and where the rest of the world can respect this country again.

McCain's pick for VP, Sarah Palin, is a terrible choice. I knew nothing about her until I turned on the TV this morning to hear that Sen. McCain picked a running mate. This governor from Alaska appears to be the anti-Hillary Clinton. John McCain cannot be serious to believe that supporters of Hillary Clinton will vote for him now because of his pick. Palin was a mayor of a small town and only has been governor for 18 months. This is what she seems to be all about. "She's pro-God, pro-life, pro-gun, pro-guts." I imagine McCain is trying his best to capture the redneck vote, his main base along with evangelicals standing along side with the rednecks. Folks who have worked hard and supported Hillary Clinton will not vote for McCain just because he picks a woman on the ticket who has no foreign policy experience and no federal government experience. There are women in the GOP who are much more qualified. Why didn't he pick Condolezza Rice, Christina Todd Whitman, Kay Bailey Hutchison, or Elizabeth Dole? Each of these are very qualified to be VP. I believe McCain blew it.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden should run their campaign like they are running behind. This is the way Mike Beebe ran his campaign to win the Arkansas gubernatorial race back in 2006. He ran like he was running behind and his staff worked very hard to beat a former Homeland Security undersecretary from getting that seat of public office. McCain picking this woman will not be a cake walk for Democrats. The McCain campaign is using this to place guilt on Obama for not picking Hillary Clinton. The Obama-Biden campaign needs to prove to the voters that picking someone who is a woman who is nothing like Hillary Clinton just won't do.

John Brummett Sucks

John Brummett is an editorial writer for the Arkansas Times whose articles appear regularly on the Times Record, my local newspaper. He usually represent the "liberal", if you can call it that, Democratic view in Arkansas. Today, he disparages Barack Obama and quotes old quotes about what Joe Biden said about Barack Obama back in the Democratic Party debates. "He's not ready." And this beauty, "He is a clean, black man." He is one of those sore losers nagging about Hillary Clinton not winning the nomination and still is doing so even as Clinton stopped the roll call to help nominate Barack Obama as the Party nominee by a vote of ayes throughout the convention. What is John doing? Does he want McCain to win or does he not believe the Obama-Biden team can pull this off? Does he deep down in his heart not want a black man to become president of the United States? Does he feel in his mind that Hillary Clinton is just far better than Obama that he wishes he could be there on stage to tell Obama to step aside for the New York Senator for the DN? Mr. Brummett has played himself into the Karl Rove play book and is mimicking what GOP strategists like Mike Murphy are trying to do, divide and conquer. Play down Obama, make people believe that there is sharp division between the Clintons and the Obamas. Then, influence people to vote for McCain because according to the GOP shysters, "that's what the Clintons are going to do when they go to the polls." John Brummett is a kick them when they're up, kick them they're down type of columnist. He kicks Obama when he's up because he doesn't like his funny sounding name. He kicks Lu Hardin, the president of the University of Central Arkansas, when he's down even after Lu acknowledges he made a mistake wanting a $3oo,ooo bonus from the school and continues to kick him when he has to have surgery for one of his eyes. He is a sick man and worse excuse for a writer passing himself off as a liberal. No wonder so many Arkansans hate liberals so much.

Last night

MSNBC aired Hillary Clinton's speech late last night. I thought it was a great speech.
It was a speech directed at those hard-core Clinton supporters telling them now she
supports Barack Obama. These guys and gals have no other choice. She says to them
"no way, no how, no McCain." Are they doing it for her, or are they doing it for the middle
class, the mother with cancer lacking health care raising her children, the family trying to
make ends meet living off of minimum wage, etc. I hope the hard-cores realize that if
turn away and support McCain, they will get Bush on steroids. Instead of acting like
Clinton cult followers, I hope they cast their vote for Obama and help turn this thing around
this November. In response, I do agree. If McCain wins, America might not live to see its
236th birthday. We cannot afford another 4 years of runaway Reaganomics and crazy
wars. Maybe Hillary don't love Obama as some pundit clown on MSNBC was asking.
She don't have to love the man, but like many voters feel when they have to make the choice,
Obama is definitely the less of the two evils.

Another thing I have noticed on daytime television. A "religious" network called DayStar was
re-airing the so-called "debate" from the Saddleback "Church?" this morning. It seems to me
this worse excuse of a religious network is doing their worst to smear Obama as much as they can and it is clear to me who they are trying to push to its viewers, to get the evangelicals all riled up like a bunch of rednecks to cast their vote for John McCain over issues that are not as important.
The Obama does need to visit the southern states more. Barack Obama does need to win 2 or 3 of them to give him a better chance to win the general election.

McCain goes low

The McCain ads are despicable. They come from the Karl Rove play book. The gal who is a turncoat who is now supporting John McCain because Hillary Clinton did not get the nod or
wasn't vetted to be the VP nominee. The spin job ad showing us Joe Biden saying Barack Obama is not ready at a Democratic debate. The Obama campaign could choose to go low on McCain. There is clip where John McCain was asked by a woman this question, "How are we going to defeat that bitch?" This is reference to Hillary Clinton. And John McCain answering her question without thinking not to do so. An ad that can be aimed at former Clinton supporters not to join the McCain camp. I have not seen them come up with that ad, which if they did, it would put the Obama campaign on the defensive. The DNC will be interesting. Unfortunately, I work the swing shift. So, I will miss the live coverage. I may record part of it. I want to watch the night when Sen. Obama accept the party's nomination and makes his speech.

Obama pick Biden as VP

It's O and Joe! As this has happened, I began to understand why Sen. Obama picked Sen. Biden.
Obama is down in percentage numbers when it comes to who could be the most effective commander-in-chief. It scares me to think that the majority of the American people believes Sen. McCain would be better at it than Barack Obama. John McCain is the man who thinks that the Beach Boys sang this bad parody played back in 1979 called "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran." Some jokers who can mimic the Beach Boys' sound did this terrible song. The Beach Boys sung "Barbara Ann." Sen. McCain makes the hairs of Sen. Cochran's neck stand up when it comes to John McCain having a bad temper. The world right now does not need John McCain and I hope the American voters cast Barack Obama into the White House. As a voter, I am willing to take the chance on electing Barack. I don't agree with him on his stance on abortion, but when it comes to this shaky economy we are experiencing not only here, but around many parts of the world, Sen. Obama is the one I trust more. I can guarantee you this to those on the far right, Roe v. Wade will never be overturned under Obama or under McCain. It won't happen in my lifetime here on earth, or my nieces and nephew's lifetimes, or my grand-nephew's lifetime. I haven't wrote much about politics in this blog. It has been mainly on Islam and religion in general. But, there is always the first time. This blog is about "all kinds of stuff" after all. My website name is in Spanish. That is because someone else took the name "all kinds of stuff" as the website name. I could not use it. So, I name it in Spanish.

Hot day

Today was the hottest day of the year as far as the temperature goes.
There were some shirts I needed to give away. I was not wearing these shirts
anymore and all these shirts were doing were hanging in my bedroom closet collecting dust.
I got rid of 14 different shirts. Eleven of them were dress shirts and three of them were
designer T-shirts. I have sent them to a Goodwill thrift store. Some guys will want these shirts.
Gas prices are up. Food prices are also up. This can put a damper in someone's budget
when it comes to buying clothes and other necessities. This is something I do every now and then. If there are some clothes I am no longer wearing, it is time for me to donate them.

Today would have been..

my mother's birthday. She passed away many years ago. It is sad, but at the same time, it is good to remember what Aug. 3 would have been. She would have 81 today if she were alive today. It is hot and sunny outside today. The temperature outside has reached 103 degrees Fahreinheit. Tomorrow may get hotter with no end in sight.

I plan to return to choir rehearsal today after a whole month of not having them. It will be nice to return to them. I began to miss them.

By the way....

There is not a single word of censure against music in the Qu'ran. Why somebody like, say, for example, Bilal Philips, believes that most if not all music is haram, I don't know? This is what I will come to believe what I thought was the teachings of Islam.

Also, by the way, music is encouraged in the Bible as I quoted two verses from Psalms in the last post.

Ibn Khaldun was a great Muslim philosopher and sociologist from the 14th century, about 700 years after the time of Muhammad. Among all professions he listed, he categorized music and writing as the highest ranking crafts in society. He believed that if music disappears from a society, there goes civilization itself. He said and I quote, "The craft of singing is the last of the crafts attained to in civilization..It is also the first to disappear from a given civilization when it disintegrates and retrogresses." But Jamaican-born Canadian Bilal Philips and the dude from Texas, Yusuf Estes both don't see it that way. They don't approve of clapping in applause. I believe they were taught by the Wahhabis that almost anything and everything is haram.
God, grants the students of theirs wisdom to show them that music is a good thing. I definitely do and have thought so for most of my life. The nasheed is music with singing and percussion. These clowns, Philips and Estes, are brainwashed by the radical teachings of the Wahhabis coming from Saudi Arabia, a country Americans pay high gas prices to and frankly, every American is totally fed up with life-strickening, money-making, snake-in-the-grass, "lets go bomb the West," cowards.

More on Music

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands." Psalm 100:1

"Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob." Psalm 81:1

"Narrated by Aisha: 'Allah's Apostle (pbuh) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus before Islam). The Prophet (pbuh) lay down and turn his face on the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, 'Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (pbuh)?' Allah's Apostle (pbuh) turned his face towards him and said, 'Leave them.' When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signalled those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of 'Id, and the Black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (pbuh) or he asked me whether I like to see the display. I replied the affirmative. Then the Prophet (pbuh) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, 'Carry on, O Bani Arfida,' till I got tired. The Prophet (pbuh) asked me, 'Are you satisfied (is the sufficient for you)?' I replied the affirmative and told me to leave."

I believe there is music that is good; music that is pleasing to us and also pleasing to God. But, most music today is haram or bad and apparently the Ansar girls during the time of Muhammad was not very pleasing to him. It puts somebody else ahead of God, taking God away from His rightful place.

I listen to many kinds of music; jazz, reggae, rock, gospel, etc. But, music can work to divide yourself from friends and loved ones. But, also at the same time, it unites people together over like-minded interests good or bad. I don't believe music is totally haram, but some of it I have heard in the past definitely is. I choose not to play the radio or music when there is mixed company. It can become a distraction. But, this is just me. And this is my take on it.
